'Monster' Mike Schultz

“Monster” Mike Schultz St. Cloud, MN

In December 2008, professional snowmobile athlete Mike Schultz, suffered an accident during competition resulting in a severe compound fracture of his left knee, which ultimately led to the amputation of his leg above the knee. To most this would have been a career ending injury, but Mike with his “never quit” attitude was willing to do anything to return to the active lifestyle he loved so much. So he solved this problem and engineered a durable and versatile mechanical knee which utilizes a patented linkage system and a FOX mountain bike shock. Within seven months, Schultz was again competing on the national stage at the ESPN Summer X Games, receiving a silver medal on his dirt bike.

After that defining moment, Mike realized the need for advancements in high impact adaptive sports prosthetics and founded BioDapt, Inc. in July 2010. Thus, making the Moto Knee available to active amputees across north America. Mike has been instrumental in the development of prosthetics for action sports and added the Versa Foot to the collection in 2013. BioDapt’s Versa Foot was named one of the Top 10 Inventions of 2013 by Popular Science magazine. Currently more than 100 wounded soldiers, extreme athletes, and amputees wanting to return to an active lifestyle are using Mike’s prosthetics.

“Monster” Mike, as he is known in the race community, continues to dominate in adaptive snocross and motocross, winning 6 ESPN X-Games gold medals. Mike also competes in several other adaptive sports including skiing, snowboarding, and wake-boarding. In addition, he has shared his ability to adapt and overcome injury with veterans around the world, as well as participating in military adaptive programs to help the wounded get back in action.
